  • Condition: Original World War II Japanese Red Cross Medal. Complete; Medallion, Ribbon, Loop Hanger, Cardboard Box. Marine/Army souvenir bring back. Medal apparently sterling silver. Legible characters. Ribbon has vibrant colors and an applied rosette. Sterling has tarnished, can be polished. Ribbon has light soiling. Top, bottom to box has crumpled corners. It is in fair to fair plus condition and at least 76 years old. Please reference the photos and detailed description.

    The Red Cross Medal is complete with a

    Ribbon with applied Rosette

    .  It came in a
    card board box
    that is period but not marked.
    Given the horrendous nature of their War Crimes, especially persecution/abuse of POWs and enslavement of civilian populations, this Medal has more then a little irony.  I do understand there was one exemplary POW compound run at the level expected of the International Red Cross, that was used for propaganda purposes with neutral international journalists.
