    Description

World War II era empty green glass bottle of French champagne
with a paper label printed as follows:
GORDON ROUGE. Champagne Brut G.H. MUMM & Co. REIMS.
Overprinted on the lightly stained paper label are the words:
    Reserved for Allied Armies
    (Achat et Revente Interdits)
A remnant of foil remains on the bottle's neck.  The base of the bottle is a concave shape (see photos).
After years of war, General Eisenhower moved his headquarters to Reims in the spring of 1945 to oversee final operations and await the unconditional surrender of Germany.  This finally occurred on May 8, 1945, when much of the continent of Europe dug out as many bottles of Champagne as humanly possible to appropriately celebrate the liberation of Europe from Nazi Germany.
This 12" tall empty green glass bottle is one of those celebratory bottles from a momentous time in human history.
(Please note that the photograph of the WWII soldier holding a bottle of champagne is not included in this auction, but is shown merely for historical context.)
Shipping is .99 via Priority mail in the U.S. and actual cost elsewhere.  The bottle will be carefully wrapped and shipped in a rigid box for maximum protection in transit.
