SUPERB CHINESE CARVED & PIERCED MOTHER OF PEARL SHELL DRAGON & PHOENIX W STAND

Description: Welcome to my auction! For your consideration we have here a very large Chinese carved and pierced mother of pearl shell along with its original hardwood stand. This was produced in China sometime between the 1940s to the 1950s for export and comes from my Mother's estate which was purchased in Michigan during the 1970s at a antique fair. This is a very large shell having a width of 10" x Height of 8" and measures about 9-1/2" on its hardwood stand. The subject matter depicts a large dragon to one side facing a phoenix in flight to the other with the flaming pearl of wisdom inbetween with the background densely worked in a cloud design showing nice piercing and carving having a wonderful surface luster. The reverse is well polished and is unadorned and the bottom has been fitted to be accepted by the custom original carved hardwood stand both pieces being in perfect undamaged condition.
