SEE PHOTO----- COMPLETE ORIGINAL single sheet Confederate Civil War newspaper, the
Richmond Daily Dispatch
(VIRGINIA) dated Oct 10, 1864. This newspaper contains much Civil War news as well as two full columns of text with the
long SPEECH given by CONFEDERATE PRESIDENT JEFFERSON DAVIS at AUGUSTA, Georgia.
This optimistic speech given by Confederate President Davis at AUGUSTA, Georgia appears to have the goal of boosting morale in the wake of the military reverses suffered by the Confederate armies at this point in the war.
Great display item for a present-day resident (or museum) in Augusta, GA
President Jefferson Davis’ speech to the citizens of Augusta in early October, 1864 was a bit overconfident, to say the least. In this speech he assures the people of Augusta he had never been more confident that the South would prevail and route the enemy form Southern soil. All they needed was determination, confidence and a vigorous effort.
Confederate Civil war newspapers are
much scarcer
than Union Civil War newspapers and the demand for them is quite high. They generally do not have the large display headlines as seen in Union Civil War newspapers but their anti-Yankee editorial text and commentary are priceless.
Very good condition. This listing includes the complete entire original single sheet newspaper, NOT just a clipping or a page of it. STEPHEN A.
