flew into Kingman's Sales & Storage Depot No. 41 after WWII and while several of those were purchased for air racing and other civilian endeavors, most were stripped of their usable items, then broken up and melted down.
Removed 7 decades ago from the cockpit of one of the latter, here's a nice
Landing Gear Warning Assy
with its function-testing button, Lamp Assy & spare bulb cartidge, all of which still work!
As you can see in the manual image provided, these Assemblies were found in late model
Lightnings
, from the
J
through the
M
.
NOTE: Both the Lamp Assy & panel have
Lockheed P-38 Part numbers
(199473 & 199474).
For the discriminating collector, this Kingman artifact actually came from the cockpit of a P-38 fighter that once graced the skies during WWII . . .
