    Description

Here is a beautiful c.1900 matted photograph of a young good looking Hopi boy wearing wonderful necklace. His face is scarred by what appears to have been a bout of the measles or possibly acne.
Epidemics of Small Pox, Influenza, measles and other diseases were not uncommon during the 18th and 19th centuries in the indigenous communities.
During the 80-year period from the 1770s to 1850, smallpox, measles, influenza, tuberculosis and other diseases had killed an estimated 28,000 Native Americans in the northwest alone. It began to decline in the beginning of the twentieth century. The current pandemic has greatly impacted the Navajo population.
The photograph measures 8 x 6. It has been professionally matted in a 14 x 11 mat and both are in excellent condition, clean and ready for framing.
It is GUARANTEED to be vintage and NOT a reproduction or later copy. Purchase with confidence.... See my 100% Positive Feedback.

I've been a collector of photographs, important documents and publications related to Native American history for over 35 years. I am not a commercial dealer. My collection mainly covers the period from early 1700's to 1930. The images (all original) are of various sizes and have been safely stored in archival museum boxes in a climate controlled setting. They are in the same condition as when I acquired them....  Please let me know if you are searching for anything in particular and I will be happy to check and place them on eBay if available.
I also have some interesting non-Native material and vernacular photographs that caught my eye over the years.... See my current listings and watch for others....
Always interested in any feedback that might shed additional light on this item.
Thank you for visiting my eBay listing!
