Description

Naturally Formed Heart Shaped Beach Hag Stone, coquinoid sandstone.
Surf-tumbled by the tides and time.
Collected by me along the shores of the Treasure Coast.
This stone is about 3" tall X 2 5/8" wide X 3/8" thick.

It is speckled shades of light gray with ivory shell inclusions. I’ve also just spotted a small
patch of calcite crystals on the rear side within the shell inclusions on the right hand side.
The edges are rounded.
It holds nicely in your hand. Easy to look through the large ( 5/16”) hole.
There is a second smaller hole (roughly 1/4” x 1/8”) at the bottom of this heart.
This stone is plum full of character and stories.... not perfect by
any means. But, perhaps, that is the way it is supposed to be.
Hag stones have occupied myth and magic folklore for centuries.
But what are Hag
Stones?
Hag stones are stones that have a
naturally occurring hole inside them.
These stones are often
found along the coastal points, beaches, and streams.
These
holes occur from the elements
beating down upon them over
many years.
There are also speculations that these mysterious
stones may have been formed
by a “worm hole”. A Hag stone
is also known as a Witch Stone
or Adder Stone or
Holey Stone
and has quite a bit of lore and many magical properties associated
with them.  Part of the folklore is that if you look through the holes
you can see fairies.
