Colonel James A Mulligan, 23rd Illinois Infantry Irish Brigade commanded the Union Forces at the Battle of Lexington, Missouri, was Killed in Action at Kernstown, West Virginia but is remembered chiefly as commander the infamous Prisoner of War Camp Douglas at Chicago. An original issue of the Philadelphia Inquirer, October 12, 1861 with front page illus & bio of Colonel James A Mulligan. A fine complete issue w 8pp news of the recent Battle of Lexington, Missouri & Surrender of the Union Forces. Disbound with edge cuts, Good overall.
