    Description

Up for sale is a copy of an ORIGINAL and HISTORIC Civil War Era Newspaper the "ARMY NAVY JOURNAL" dated Saturday, January 28, 1865.  Gazette Of The Regular And Volunteer Forces.  Read first hand what was happening in the US about 4 months before the official end of the Civil War (May 9, 1865).
It is an 8 page (16 pages front and back) newspaper measuring approximately 10" x 15".
The paper covers some important historical news including the following articles "THE MILITARY SITUATION - SHERMAN'S DEPARTMENT", "AMERICAN AND FOREIGN NAVY-YARDS", "THE PAY OF OFFICERS", "PROMOTIONS IN SHERMAN'S ARMY" "A TESTIMONIAL TO GENERAL GRANT" and "LIST OF OFFICERS KILLED AND WOUNDED DURING THE ATTACK UPON FORT FISHER".  It includes an official directory for the War Department, some advertisements, business notices, military notices, want ads, for sale, marriages, and much, much more!
The paper is in Good condition.  There is wear to the paper - there are creases and tears along the edges. There are a number creases and tears in the middle of the editorials, as well.  The over 150 year old paper also suffers from stains, browning, spotting and type fading.
This is an incredible chance to read about our countries history on the original day it was reported!  A great opportunity for any collector or history buff to own a true piece of American history!
