    Description

This is an original page from a Civil War Newspaper (not named) showing the old state house in Columbia, South Carolina before the Civil War began. In this building the South Carolina legislature unanimously adopted the ordinance of secession in December of 1860. Above this illustration is the portrait of Isaac W. Hayne the attorney-general of South Carolina who brought the ultimatum to President Buchanan. This sketch is also hand painted. On the back side is a sketch of an interior view of Fort Moultrie that engaged the fight with Fort Sumter. This sketch is NOT hand colored. The page measures 11 by 16 inches. The paper is strong and solid, the hand painting is very clean and bright. This is a piece that would look wonderful framed.
