    Description

FINE c.1880s NORTHERN PLAINS BEADED PIPE BAG, GEOMETRICS BRAIN TANNED LEATHER. Condition is "Used".
I have owned this bag for the last 40 years.  I got it from the estate of a man who owned it 50+ years.  An additional bag from this collection I owned was museum grade with an Indian leading multiple horses on leads.  Both bags were examined in person in the 1980s by the archaeologist Director at Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology of Brown University.  They were pronounced genuine, circa 1880, and highly desirable.  The museum was very eager to acquire both bags.
The body of the bag is almost 13.5", and the total length with the fringe is almost 22".  Beadwork includes greasy yellow beads.  All beadwork intact.  One leather strip and cone has become detached.  I may be able to locate it, but cannot guarantee I will find it.  Original tinned steel cones have light rust in some spots.  The bag is still supple.  No insect or other damage.
