Description
This assembly has BOTH of the checkered knobs that were in use on the early Springfield M1 "Gas Trap" M1 Garand rifles. Finish is about 80% in a dark parkerized finish with some face wear on the edges of the knobs but nice and strong checkering and stampings. They have the later "type 3" pinion and Springfield "round edge" lockbar which was the fate pretty much of all original "flush nut" rear sights that went in for a rebuild at some point. The pinion is in good shape and does include the spring and lock washer. The caps have the closed arrowheads. Now to the serial number stuff. BOTH checkered knobs were in use from about 20,000 to 200,000 (The elevation knob had a parts number inside the cap before this and it is crazy rare. This knob does not have it. Externally, it looks just like the earlier version) At about 200,00 the checkering on the windage knob was dropped for standard knurling but the elevation cap kept the checkering into the early 800,000 range.
