    Description

A wonderful collection of 125 authentic Civil War clipped cartoons with military and political content with some of the pieces dealing with slavery. These original pieces are from The New York Illustrated News and Harpers Weekley Newspapers from 1862-63. There is great period artwork and political satire featuring Presidents Lincoln and Davis, Union and Confederate Generals, John Bull, economical issues and Civil War battle failures and successes. Some of the cartoons are quite famous and have appeared in Civil War publications. Most of the pieces are from 1862 with some from 1863. The edges and reverse sides also feature interesting period advertising. Condition overall is very good ( a few have the odd tear or age spot). The largest pieces measure !0" x 8". An exceptional collection of Civil War cartoons.
