    Sioux (Lakota) Rattle from circa 1880-1890.
    This classic Sioux rattle was collected
    in the late 19th C
    from the Sioux (Lakota) in Southern North Dakota.

    The rattle is made of a wood stick, completely covered with native tanned hide and with a hide pendant decorated with fringe and beads, all
    sinew sewn
    , in bead colors, light 'sky' blue, a darker shade of medium green, rose-white-heart and dark blue. Some of the strings that connect the rattlers are fragile and a few rattlers are lost.
    The length of the rattle itself is circa 16". The pendant adds some 8" to that.
